Prof. Nikolay Martinov was born on 19th Sept. 1939 in Pleven. He graduated from the Faculty of Physics, Sofia University, in 1963. His research and professional development were related to Sofia University. He was a Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Physics between 1986 and 1990, Vice-Rector between 1991 and 1998, Head of the Department of Physics of Condensed Matter between 1989 and 2000.

Prof. Martinov was the leader of the core courses Mechanics, Molecule Physics, etc. He was an elite lecturer acknowledged by both students and colleagues. He aouthored more than 90 publications and was nominated for Nobel Prize in Physics in 2001 and 2005.

His personality and devotion will be followed by his colleagues. Prof. Martinov will be remembered with deep respect.
